Ticino lags behind record 2024 visitor numbers in Switzerland, but forecasts for 2025 indicate a recovery

2024 has been a record year for tourism in Switzerland, with 42.8 million overnight stays, driven primarily by foreign guests (+5.1%), particularly Americans and Asians. However, Ticino registered a decrease of 1.5%, going against the national growth of 2.6%. Valais and Fribourg also saw a contraction, while the cities of Geneva and Zurich achieved the best results.

The Ticinese Tourism Observatory (O-Tur) noted an increase in arrivals and overnight stays in December, but these figures were not enough to reverse the negative annual trend. However, thanks to data from the HBenchmark platform, O-Tur forecasts a positive February 2025 for Ticino, with an increase in the hotel occupancy rate of 3.4%.
