Elba Island: data presentations with the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè

Tourist numbers on the island have responded to the post-Covid period differently from other destinations: an initial upturn during the pandemic gave way to a decline in visitor numbers in 2023, which fell by 51% compared with the 2022 season.

However, HBenchmark data shows that, in 2024, the accommodation sector ended the season with an 11% increase compared to 2023, with growth recorded in both traditional accommodation and non-hotel accommodation:

  • The average stay on the island is 7 days for accommodation facilities;
  • The most popular accommodation option is bed and breakfast, accounting for 34.51%;
  • Italians account for 72.1% of visitors to Elba, followed by Germans (8.31%), the Swiss (6.81%), Austrians (1.91%) and, finally, the French (1.55%).
  • As regards the Open Air sector, again according to data compiled by HBenchmark, it can be seen that the season for bungalows and small villas ended with a +1%:
  • Visitor numbers were 541,000 for Italian tourists, 281,000 for German tourists and 8,351,000 for Swiss tourists;
  • The average length of stay was 9 days.
